Summits of Fire and Ice: Ascent to Santa Isabel (5 Days)

SUMMITS OF FIRE AND ICE: ASCENT TO SANTA ISABEL

High mountain expedition in the PNN Los Nevados: acclimatization in Cocora, crossing the Otún moorland, and summit attack on the northern peak of the Santa Isabel Glacier.

Day 1: Acclimatization in the Cocora Valley

Reception at PEI and transfer to Salento. Technical acclimatization hike of 11 km through the cloud forest to Acaime (2,860 m.a.s.l.).

Day 2: 4x4 Ascent and Trekking to Laguna del Otún

4x4 off-road ascent to El Cedral and trekking through the Otún River basin to the Otún Lagoon (3,950 m.a.s.l.). Overnight stay in a mountain shelter.

Day 3: Glacial Moraines and Ice School

Hike to the Potosí base camp - Conejeras (4,150 m.a.s.l.). Training on the use of crampons, ice axe, and roping.

Day 4: Attack on Cumbre Santa Isabel (4,965 m) and Hot Springs

Departure at 03:00 AM to the glacial edge and northern summit of Nevado Santa Isabel. Descent and transfer to the Santa Rosa de Cabal Hot Springs.

Day 5: Recovery and Return

Rest day at the thermal estate and transfer to Matecaña Airport in Pereira (PEI).
