The Lost City, also calledTeyuna, it is one of the main archaeological sites in Colombia. Hidden in theSierra Nevada de Santa Marta, this ancient Tayrona city (8th century) consists of about 500 stone terraces connected by stairs. Its ruins invite thearchaeological tourismin the middle of the rainforest: a multi-day hike where each step reveals the rich ancestral history of the Tayrona. How to get there?

To get to theLost City, follow these detailed steps to ensure a hassle-free trip:

  • Santa Marta (by air):Fly toSimón Bolívar International Airportin Santa Marta, which is the gateway to the trek. Upon your arrival, you will be picked up to continue the journey by land.
  • Transfer to El Mamey:From the airport, take a trip in4×4of approximately2–3 hoursfor theCaribbean Trunk Roadto the town ofThe Mamey(also known as Machete Pelado). This is the official starting point of the trekking. Upon arrival, you will be provided with a traditional lunch before starting the hike.
  • Start of the trekking: En The Mameythe hike through mountainous trails begins. Along the way, you will have certified local guides who ensure safety and share ancestral knowledge. Each day involves6–8 hourson a trekking through the rainforest, crossing rivers and ascending to natural viewpoints.
